Michael Jordan and Joel Osteen

Life can bring opportunities you’d never expect. Last month, the week after Valentines Day, I spent time with two amazing people, who are absolutely #1 in their field.

Let me tell the story, and what their success means for you.

Now, before I get started…you know I always do my best to be completely transparent with you, so I’ll tell you up front that this story is a little lengthy, but please be patient and take the time to read it all.  I believe it will be well worth it to your success.

On Wednesday, February 20th I had dinner with. Michael Jordan, the world famous basketball star. Wow. He sure holds a lot of records. I’m pretty good when it comes to sports trivia, but even I didn’t know everything he had accomplished.

I did know that the National Basketball Association called him the “greatest player of all time” and his incredible leaping ability, (and I’m talking about making slam dunks from the free throw line), earned him the nicknames “Air Jordan” and “His Airness”.

I didn’t know that he had won five MVP awards, fourteen NBA All-Star Game appearances and that he holds the NBA record for the highest career regular season scoring average. Oh, and he also was named the greatest North American athlete of the 20th century by ESPN.

Michael and I had a very interesting talk about life, success, tragedy and overcoming obstacles. (I’ll tell you more on that in a minute).

The very next day I hung out with Joel Osteen, the senior pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. He made Barbara Walters’ “10 Most Fascinating People of 2006″, list and has written two books, “Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential” and “Become a Better You.” The central message of his books are “don’t get stuck where you are…keep growing.”

Joel took over for his father as pastor of Lakewood Church in 1999, and at the time had only preached once in his life, (the week before his father’s death). He had no formal training to be a Pastor, but today, Lakewood Church services are seen in over 100 nations around the world, 200 millions households in the USA and it is the largest church in America.

Now no matter what your personal opinions are of either Joel or MJ, one thing is certain… they have done amazing things with what they have.

If I had never met them, I might have mistakenly believed they lived some kind of “lucky” life where they had just been handed success.

The truth is that both Michael Jordan and Joel Osteen have overcome HUGE obstacles and public embarrassments, for example; Joel with his 2005 interview on Larry King and Michael’s baseball experience with the White Sox.

They both have endured more criticism than you or I could ever imagine, but they didn’t let other people crush their spirits or talk them out of their dreams.

These are two very different people but, they both share some of the same success rules.

They work to make a positive difference in the world. They take action and go after the things they want…and most importantly, they believe in themselves.

They have made the most of their unique abilities, and they have both achieved incredible results, simply by doing what they believed they could do, and doing it to the best of their ability – in spite of the obstacles.

The time I spent with them reminded me of something important. Something I feel is crucial to your success.

You MUST believe in yourself! Now don’t brush this off as cliché, I want you to pay attention to this.

You, me, Michael Jordan and Joel Osteen all have the same 24 hours every day. It’s what we do with those 24 hours that matters.

I have life issues, and family, and problems, and friends, just like you do. But my journey toward success began when I made a decision that I wanted more.

Maybe that’s where you are right now. Wanting more.

Well, you can have it! I have been fortunate to have achieved much. I’ve taken a lot of chances and have been rewarded in many ways. But nothing has been more rewarding than my being able to help others achieve financial independence.

In my opinion, we live in the greatest country on Earth and there are so many ways to achieve success and make a lot of money, especially in real estate…if you are willing to take action, you will change your life forever and you can be a successful real estate investor.

You must stay focused and not let anything get in your way. You have what it takes to make a difference in your life and to achieve the financial freedom that you deserve.

There is a whole world of money to be made in real estate. This is something that will never go away. So stay excited.

Are you taking action with the things you’ve received from me? Are you listening to the monthly conference calls and reading the materials I’ve created for you?

A little bit of action goes a long way my friend. Even if you just commit to an hour a day, four hours a week, six hours a month, whatever, please do yourself a favor, do me a favor…apply the principles, and take that chance to change your life forever.

I’ve made an absolute fortune through real estate, and I’m not any smarter than you. I never went to college, and I wasn’t the greatest student in high school. But I’ve achieved success, and you have the opportunity to learn from my trial-and-error, from my mistakes and my successes.

You can do it! I believe in you…believe in yourself too!

Sincerely,

 Dean Graziosi

    Hey Dean,

At first I was really wanting to hear more about HOW you met these guys, but by the time I got to the end of your story I realized the ‘how’ wasn’t important. I appreciate you reinforcing the real important point - that what I can do is really only limited by what I “think” I can do and the “action” I take. I’ve been slacking the last few weeks, (I blame it on springtime) but it’s time to quit making excuses and get back to using the tools I’ve got from you. - Yours Truly, Sam

Dean, I am only disappointed that meeting me was not one of your highlights and life ambitions. I guess that I will have to be satisfied with being in your Top 10.

I hope that you and your beautiful family are blessed. It is always good to see you and I hope you will come and worship with us again soon. Until then…

Joel Osteen is the greatest, I only wish I lived in Texas, but I watch him every Sunday, get his daily inspirations and read all his books. He just boosts your soul each and every time he talks. You have been truly blessed to get one on one time with him.

    Dean:
I read in LIFE magazine (several years ago) that after MJ graduated from college, he was actually turned down by some PRO teams because they thought “he wasn’t good enough”. I suppose some similar statements were made about the Psalmist, David…..just before he brought down Goliath.
    Thanks for the encouragement!
